Healthy Hair Habits

Regardless of where you are in your haircare journey, there’s always NOW when you can start or improve your ritual. You may or may not have adopted all of these already, but if not, here are some simple habits that can help keep your hair healthy.

Brush your hair before showering: This is a good step before getting in. It can help prevent tangles and breakage while washing your hair. Also by doing so, it will remove hair that is meant to fall so you don’t clog your drain.

Use a sulfate-free shampoo: Sulfates can strip your hair of its natural oils, so using a sulfate-free shampoo can help keep your hair healthy and hydrated. When shampooing, avoid using hot water as it also can strip your hair of its oils, and cause dryness.

Use a wide-toothed comb: When combing your hair, use a wide-toothed comb, like the Judy Comb, to avoid tugging and breaking your hair. This can be done in your shower while you have your conditioner or favourite mask on.

Use a heat protectant: Please don’t skip this habit! Before using heat styling tools, like a curling iron or straightener, apply a heat protectant to prevent damage and dryness.

Don't over-wash your hair: Washing your hair every day can remove your hair's  protective oils, so try to wash it every other day or every few days.

Rinse your hair with cold water: Yes, this can be a hard habit to do but the more you do it, you’ll get used to it. After shampooing and conditioning, rinse it with cold water to help seal the hair cuticle, prevent frizz and give it more shine; as a bonus, it's also really good for your skin.

Use a deep conditioning treatment: Once a week, choose your favourite conditioning treatment to help nourish and hydrate your hair. Can you guess which day is our favourite day to do this? Yes, Wednesdays as we make it part of our Wellness Wednesday routine.

Prep your hair for bed: We recommend The Twirl as a sleeping accessory for your hair. Before bed, wrap your hair with The Twirl. This protective hairstyle will prevent damage and maintain volume overnight. Sleeping on a silk pillowcase also helps prevent breakage and frizz by reducing friction on your hair.

Don't tie your hair too tight: Avoid tying your hair too tight in a ponytail or bun, as this can cause breakage and damage. The Twirl is a great accessory for you to style your hair in different ways without breaking your strands.

Eat a healthy diet: A balanced diet with plenty of vitamins and nutrients can help promote healthy hair growth and strength.
